Edge Intelligence Hires a CBO—Surely That Fixes Everything

Another small-cap defense software company hires a new revenue executive, and the press release machinery churns out its usual hymn of transformation. Edge Total Intelligence (TSXV: CTRL) has named Jaci Tomek Chief Business Officer, effective October 19, 2026, handing her sales, business development, marketing, and partnerships as part of a go-to-market restructuring announced on October 7. Translation: the previous approach wasn’t working, so they’re reorganizing. Happens at least once every two years at companies in this tier, and the market has long since stopped pretending it means anything until the revenue lines confirm it.

To be fair, Tomek’s résumé is not the usual padded LinkedIn fodder. She was Chief Revenue Officer at Andesite AI, ran the U.S. Public Sector Cortex team at Palo Alto Networks where her team landed a nine-figure deal, built Aerospike’s public sector business from scratch, and led U.S. Public Sector at RSA after the NetWitness acquisition — posting an 86% three-year CAGR back when that number meant something more than a slide in a deck. Stints at Symantec, LookingGlass (now ZeroFox), advisory roles at Dragos, Wickr, and Phantom Cyber, plus founding her own outfit in 2017. This is a person who has actually sold software to the Pentagon’s sprawling bureaucracy, which — anyone who has survived a defense procurement cycle will tell you — is a distinct skill from selling software.

The strategic pitch is coherent enough: edgeCore sits on top of existing systems, coordinating data, people, and AI models without taking custody of the data, aimed at military branches, allied forces, and the maritime, manufacturing, and critical-infrastructure supply chains feeding them. Tomek’s mandate includes getting named operations onto the platform in weeks, scaling integrator and reseller channels across shipyards, fleets, and allied programs, and offering enough licensing flexibility that customers aren’t forced through one procurement straitjacket. CEO Jason Nichols insists that cracking a new military branch or industry takes more than a sales team — partners, solutions teams, and contracting models. He’s right, and it’s refreshing to hear a small-cap CEO admit that revenue growth in defense is measured in procurement cycles, not quarters.

The awkward detail nobody in the release dwells on: Tomek served on edgeTI’s own board from May 2023 until September 2026, when she declined to stand for re-election — and then joined management weeks later. Insider familiarity cuts both ways. It de-risks the hire, or it signals a board seat converted into a payout ladder, depending on your level of cynicism. Given that the company’s own forward-looking disclosures flag material uncertainty about its ability to continue as a going concern, that cynicism has some营养 nourishment. Hiring a proven federal sales leader is a rational move for a company that needs contracts more than it needs another strategic vision statement.

The real question is whether defense buyers bite. edgeTI competes in a crowded operational-intelligence space where Palantir’s shadow looms over every small vendor pitch and where “weeks to deploy” claims die routinely in accreditation review. Tomek has closed nine-figure deals before; now she gets to prove she can do it with a micro-cap balance sheet behind her. Investors should watch bookings and contract awards, not press releases.
