Over 260 Drivers at Local 282 in New York Demand Fair Contract
NEW YORK, Nov. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — More than 260 members of Teamsters Local 282 have voted unanimously to authorize a strike at US Foods. The drivers are demanding a fair contract with higher wages, better benefits, and safer working conditions. If the company fails to reach an agreement, Teamsters will be forced to strike, impacting hundreds of deliveries at local restaurants, hospitals, and schools around the New York tri-state area.
“Our members not only deliver US Foods products, they drive the company’s profits,” said Tom Gesualdi, President of Local 282. “US Foods has the resources to offer a fair deal and avert a strike. Our members know their worth and won’t back down.”
“If we don’t get a contract that recognizes our hard work, we’ll have no choice but to strike,” said Tony Casten, a 20-year driver and member of Local 282. “It’s the last thing we want to do, but when push comes to shove, we have to stand up for ourselves and make sure our labor is respected. We’re not asking for anything unreasonable.”
US Foods has a market capitalization of over $19 billion, making it one of the largest and most profitable food service distributors in the United States. In 2025, the company reported $39.4 billion in net sales.
Teamsters at Local 2 and Local 190 are in similar contract disputes with US Foods and could launch strike actions at any moment.
“Our fight isn’t just in New York,” said Tom Erickson, Director of the Teamsters Warehouse Division. “If US Foods continues down this path, it will pay the price across the country. The Teamsters represent more than 5,000 US Foods workers nationwide and we are united and ready to take a stand against this company if necessary.”
