HOUSTON, Nov. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Oil Market Daily News Commentary – The first week of November brings a run of oil company earnings, fresh U.S. inventory data and a jobs report, all landing a day after a key group of OPEC+ producers left its supply plan unchanged. Meeting virtually on Sunday, seven OPEC+ countries chose to hold required production for December 2026 at the September 2026 level. The latest U.S. Energy Information Administration figures put the Brent spot price at $123.10 a barrel and West Texas Intermediate at $103.37 on October 27. Active Companies from around the markets with current developments this week include: Diamondback Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FANG), Ovintiv Inc. (NYSE: OVV) (TSX: OVV), Cenovus Energy Inc. (NYSE: CVE) (TSX: CVE), ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP), Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE: DVN).
The group, made up of Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria and Oman, restated its commitment to full conformity with the Declaration of Cooperation and scheduled its next monthly meeting for November 29. In its October Short-Term Energy Outlook, the EIA assumed Middle East oil flows stay constrained through the fourth quarter, with shut-in production averaging 4.5 million barrels per day over that period, and forecast the Brent spot price to average $105 a barrel for the quarter. The agency’s November outlook is scheduled for November 10.
U.S. supply data arrives on its usual schedule. The EIA’s Weekly Petroleum Status Report is due Wednesday, November 4, at 10:30 a.m. ET. In the previous report, covering the week ending October 23, commercial crude inventories fell 1.9 million barrels to 410.6 million barrels, 4% below the five-year average, distillate inventories fell 1.5 million barrels and sat 10% below the five-year average, and refineries ran at 92.8% of capacity. The weekly natural gas storage report follows on Thursday. Baker Hughes counted 603 active U.S. rigs on October 30, unchanged from the week before and up 57 from a year earlier, while the Canadian count rose by 6 to 226; the next North American count is due Friday.
There is no Federal Reserve decision this week. On October 28, the Federal Open Market Committee approved its statement by a 10-2 vote, keeping the target range for the federal funds rate at 3-3/4 to 4 percent and noting that inflation remains elevated. Lisa D. Cook and Beth M. Hammack voted against the action, preferring a 1/4 percentage point increase. The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes job openings data on Tuesday, preliminary third-quarter productivity and costs on Thursday, and the October employment report at 8:30 a.m. ET on Friday.

Ovintiv Inc. (NYSE: OVV) (TSX: OVV)
Ovintiv plans to release its third-quarter financial and operating results after the market closes on Tuesday, November 3, and to hold its conference call at 8:00 a.m. MST on Wednesday. On October 26, the company agreed to acquire Montney oil producer Logan Energy Corp. in an all-cash transaction that values Logan at approximately $890 million (C$1.26 billion), including expected net debt at closing. The deal is expected to add approximately 266,000 net acres in the Montney oil window and current production of approximately 20 MBOE/d, with annual cost synergies of approximately $60 million. Ovintiv expects the transaction to close early in the first quarter of 2027, subject to Logan shareholder, court and regulatory approvals, and said its target of returning at least 60% of 2026 Non-GAAP Free Cash Flow to shareholders is unchanged.
“This bolt-on transaction delivers value for our shareholders by adding high margin oil and condensate production and infrastructure, utilizing our operational advantage to drive significant synergies, and adding to our already deep drilling inventory and future growth optionality,” said Ovintiv President and CEO, Brendan McCracken.
Cenovus Energy Inc. (NYSE: CVE) (TSX: CVE)
Cenovus will release its third-quarter 2026 results on Wednesday, November 4, with a conference call at 8:30 a.m. ET. The quarter follows the company’s October 5 agreement to acquire Athabasca Oil Corporation in a cash and stock transaction with an implied enterprise value of $5.7 billion, at a price of $12.00 per Athabasca share (Cenovus reports in Canadian dollars). Cenovus said the acquisition adds approximately 45 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, including thermal production near its Christina Lake, May River and Thornbury assets, and expects approximately $85 million per year of corporate and commercial synergies. It expects the deal to close in December 2026, subject to customary conditions including regulatory approvals and approval by Athabasca shareholders.
“This transaction strengthens our position in one of the world’s premier oil-producing regions and is a natural extension of our oil sands strategy,” said Jon McKenzie, Cenovus President & Chief Executive Officer.
ConocoPhillips (NYSE: COP)
ConocoPhillips will release third-quarter results before the market opens on Thursday, November 5, followed by a webcast at 12:00 p.m. ET. It is the company’s first quarterly report since Andy O’Brien succeeded Ryan Lance as president and chief executive officer, under appointments that took effect September 1, with Lance becoming executive chair in a transitional role and Konnie Haynes-Welsh becoming chief financial officer. For the second quarter, ConocoPhillips reported earnings of $3.9 billion, or $3.23 per share, compared with $2.0 billion, or $1.56 per share, a year earlier, total company production of 2,248 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day, and shareholder distributions of $3.0 billion after doubling share repurchases. It also signed an agreement to acquire a 42% interest in a joint venture in the Kirkuk area of northern Iraq, with closing expected by year-end 2026.
“I’m honored to lead ConocoPhillips and grateful to Ryan for the strong foundation he has built,” said Andy O’Brien when the company announced on August 6 that he would succeed Lance as president and chief executive officer.
Devon Energy Corporation (NYSE: DVN)
Devon will report third-quarter 2026 results on Thursday, November 5, after the close of U.S. markets, and will hold a conference call on Friday at 10 a.m. CDT (11 a.m. EDT). On October 8, the company agreed to sell its Eagle Ford assets to Crescent Energy Company for $4.2 billion in cash, subject to customary closing adjustments. The assets cover approximately 90,000 net acres in Karnes, DeWitt and Gonzales Counties, Texas, and represent approximately 4% of Devon’s total BOE production. Devon said after-tax proceeds will be used to accelerate share repurchases and reduce debt, that the sale is expected to close around year-end 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, and that it will provide additional details, including the impact on its outlook, with its third-quarter results.
“This sale is a direct outcome of our ongoing portfolio review, and it sharpens our focus on the highest-return, longest-duration assets,” said Clay Gaspar, President and Chief Executive Officer.
