GRUNGE: The Noise is Coming Back!

TUCSON, Ariz., Oct. 30, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — GRUNGE is a feature-length suspense horror-thriller born from the collision between Seattle’s grunge Legacy and the underground music culture, mythology, and psychedelic horror.

Set in 1993, the story focuses on a popular grunge band.  But it isn’t a nostalgic recreation of the 1990s. Rather, it’s a horror film using the mythology of grunge as its cultural foundation. The film combines the raw energy of the grunge music culture with a genuinely terrifying set of circumstances … something simultaneously familiar and dangerous—a story rooted in recognizable cultural history that gets pushed into psychedelic, psychological, and visceral horror.

A rising rock band is on the verge of stardom, with a scorching new single lighting up the airwaves and their debut music video premiering on MTV. Everything seems to be falling into place, when disaster strikes. Following a sudden and tragic turn of events, the band is thrust into a violent psychedelic spiral, leading them down a blood-soaked path of death and destruction,

Based on a story by Rene Rivas with special effects by Quin Davis, the 15-minute short film premieres on Crypt TV on Halloween Eve, October 30, 2026. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pcHB-sEGvc).  The goal of this ‘proof of concept’ short version is to ignite audience interest, turning that audience into a community that will help bring the full feature version to life.

Rene Rivas is an independent filmmaker, writer, producer, director, and cinematographer based in Tucson, Arizona, who has spent years developing independent narrative and genre projects, with a particular interest in creating ambitious films outside the traditional studio system.

Quin Davis is a sought-after Special FX expert whose work has appeared in productions by major studios, including Paramount, Sony, Universal, and Columbia.  His company, Davis FX, is also based in Tucson.

The film will be shot in Tucson in March 2027.

An official Indiegogo campaign for the GRUNGE feature film will launch when the short film premiers on Crypt TV.  The coordinated release gives audiences an immediate opportunity to watch the proof of concept, experience the world of the film, and participate directly in helping create the feature. The film already has in-kind services partnership with Movie Maker Magazine. For an independently financed feature, that is significant.

Launching a feature-film crowdfunding campaign in conjunction with Crypt TV is a first-of-its-kind collaboration – a direct bridge between a short-form proof of concept and a feature-film campaign.  The strategy is designed to create a single, concentrated moment in which the film’s release and its next stage of development become one event.

One of the project’s most significant music-world connections comes through Daniel House, whose history is deeply intertwined with the Seattle scene that gave birth to grunge. House was a central figure behind C/Z Records, the influential Seattle label that released early recordings from artists who would become foundational figures in the grunge movement, including Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Green River, among others. His involvement gives GRUNGE a connection to the actual musical history behind the mythology.

This isn’t a film simply using grunge as an aesthetic. GRUNGE is also receiving support from Sub Pop, the legendary Seattle-based label whose history is inseparable from the emergence of grunge into the international cultural consciousness.  The relationship further connects the project to the musical ecosystem that helped define the genre. Together, the involvement of C/Z Records and Sub Pop gives GRUNGE something particularly valuable: AUTHENTICITY.
