New 18,000-square-foot fitness and wellness destination will offer approximately 300 classes per week and introduce Toronto’s first high-capacity group strength training studio
TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2026 /CNW/ — Sweat and Tonic (S&T), Canada’s leading fitness and wellness hub, today announced its 11 Yorkville Avenue location will officially open its doors on November 21, following a coveted pre-opening sale which saw introductory packages selling out within the first 30 minutes, and founding membership offers selling out within 12 hours.
The new 18,000 square-foot space marks S&T’s third Toronto location and its latest evolution as a renowned destination bringing fitness, wellness, recovery and community, all under one roof. The Yorkville location will offer approximately 300 classes per week across four signature studio experiences: an immersive Ride studio, a hot Yoga & Pilates studio, Reformd – S&T’s Lagree Method studio that has just announced an U.S. expansion – and the latest addition to the roster – Toronto’s first high-capacity group strength training studio.
The global strength training market has been experiencing a structural shift from niche to mainstream. Floor space dedicated to resistance and functional zones has more than doubled – from ~20% in 2019 to ~42% in 2024, while cardio space has fallen to ~12%. Participation among women and 20–35-year-olds has risen over 25% since 2019.*
“With global trends showing participation in weight training activities growing dramatically over the last several years – particularly among women, who make up 75% of our community – along with the demand we’ve seen for our existing small group strength training classes, we saw an opportunity to rethink what that could look like, and to evolve how we support our guests at every stage of their fitness and wellness journey,” David Ingram, Founder of Sweat and Tonic. “We know that muscular strength, functional mobility, recovery, and community-belonging are all critical contributors to our well-being. The goal was to create a space where our guests can make meaningful progress – one that brings together focused training, thoughtful and progressive programming, along with our signature experience, elevated design, recovery amenities, and the connection that we all crave.”
Designed as the highest-capacity group strength training experience in the city, the Strength Studio features 48 spots across 12 workout pods, equipped with premium Rogue weight racks and Keiser cable equipment engineered with pneumatic resistance systems for strength and power training, integrated digital instruction screens, state-of-the-art AV, and an elevated instructor podium for enhanced guest visibility.
Driven by the brand’s hospitality-first approach, the Yorkville location will include dedicated spaces designed for guests to work, recover, recharge, and connect. Tonic House, its members’ lounge, co-working space and multi-functional event venue, features a fireplace, sound-proof phone booths, a bespoke cocktail bar, delivery from Tonic Bar – their in-house smoothie and healthy bites cafe – and overlooks iconic neighbourhood landmarks including the historic Yorkville Fire Hall, Toronto Public Library, and the Four Seasons Hotel.
Unique to this location are enhanced recovery amenities: both the women’s and men’s changing rooms will feature dedicated contrast therapy suites with custom-built dual infrared and electric high-heat saunas and cold plunge tubs – all accessible to guests at no additional charge.
“We’ve made a commitment to deliver the most comprehensive and highest-value group fitness and wellness membership in Canada, where you can access our full range of yoga, Pilates, HIIT, strength training, indoor cycling, HYROX training, Lagree, guided sauna, pool deck, contrast therapy, and recovery options – under one ecosystem,” says Ingram. “The traditional fitness industry is modelled around friction. Difficult to join, and even more difficult to leave with fixed commitment terms, minimum notice periods, and cancellation fees. It’s been our mandate to do away with that friction – no annual contracts, no initiation or cancellation fees, and truly unlimited access to the widest selection of group fitness classes there is in Canada without any daily, weekly, or monthly limits. Whether you’re joining our community on an Unlimited membership, our universal credits, or pay-as-you go platforms, we’ve removed all barriers to entry to ensure access options that cater to the unique circumstances of every guest. We know all of this is important to our community; nearly seven years in, we’ve welcomed over 3.4 million in guest bookings. We’re incredibly grateful for all of the continued support, and so excited to finally bring this level of value and quality to the Yorkville neighbourhood.”
Sweat and Tonic is extending a limited quantity of pre-opening Yorkville Unlimited memberships at $260 per month (regularly $280 per month) that includes unlimited Yoga, Pilates, Strength Training, Ride classes, and Tonic House at Yorkville, unlimited access to the pool deck at Tonic Spa (Front/Spadina location), four (4) S&T all-location class credits per month (redeemable for classes at any S&T location), and more.
