ASCM Houston Chapter Presents “Navigating the Future – A Port of Houston Update” at Houston Maritime Center & Museum

HOUSTON, Aug. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — The ASCM Houston Chapter will host an exclusive professional development event, Navigating the Future – A Port of Houston Update, on Thursday, August 21, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Houston Maritime Center & Museum, 2940 Riverby Road, Suite 200, Houston, TX 77020. The event is sponsored by Margaret Kidd, President of the Houston Maritime Center & Museum.

The evening will feature a keynote address by Rich Byrnes, Chief Port Infrastructure Officer for Port Houston, who will share strategic insights into how one of the nation’s busiest ports is adapting to global trade shifts, infrastructure demands, and sustainability goals.

Discussion topics will include:

Major infrastructure investments, including expansion of the Houston Ship Channel

Emerging global maritime trade risks and opportunities

Long-range planning for freight efficiency and environmental stewardship

Strategic growth initiatives fueling Gulf Coast economic vitality

Port Houston plays a critical role in the global supply chain,” said Kidd. “This event offers a rare opportunity for industry leaders to hear directly from one of the port’s top executives on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.”

Port Houston’s eight public terminals together with the more than 200 private terminals along the 52-mile waterway is a powerhouse for Texas and the nation – supporting 1.54 million Texas jobs and 3.37 million nationwide. Its operations generate $439 billion in statewide economic value and $906 billion nationwide, while the Houston Ship Channel contributes $10.6 billion in state and local tax revenue and $62.8 billion nationally. The port continues to lead in sustainability, innovation, and global trade efficiency.

Byrnes brings decades of global experience in engineering, operations, and consulting, having worked across maritime, shipbuilding, energy, and logistics sectors. His career includes leadership roles at Schlumberger, Halliburton, and international supply chain operations—from the Middle East to Antarctica.

The event will also provide networking opportunities with leaders from major companies including Johnson & Johnson, Shell Lubricants, HEB, Weatherford, NOV, and Coastal Pacific Food Distributors.
