PTA CONNECTED INITIATIVE HELPS FAMILIES NAVIGATE RAISING CHILDREN IN THE DIGITAL AGE; PROVIDES FREE TOOLS TO HELP SET HEALTHY LIMITS AND CREATE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 25, 2025 /PRNewswire/ —

BACKGROUND:
Parenting in the digital age can be complex, and families are faced with many important decisions surrounding technology use and digital safety. Determining when their children may be ready for a device and establishing healthy digital habits are chief among them. Research also shows that family engagement in teens’ digital lives can help teens have positive experiences. However, it can be difficult for parents to know where to begin to build trust and open dialogue within their family. PTA has been a partner to parents on digital parenting topics, exploring in-depth the issues that are on the minds of today’s families, and connecting parents with tools, research and support to make the best decisions for their children.

Through its PTA Connected initiative, the association is striving to help children act safely, responsibly and thoughtfully online. In this interview, PTA Connected Ambassador Mikki Wilson discusses some of the free resources National PTA has available that help promote and foster positive, healthy, and responsible device use for all members of the family. She also shares how local PTAs have been and can get involved in these initiatives.

SOME OF THE FREE TOOLS AND PROGRAMS AVAILABLE THROUGH PTA CONNECTED:

  • The Create with Kindness program, a collaboration between National PTA and TikTok, brings high school families together for an open and interactive discussion with their teens on their online experiences and equips families with practical information and resources to enhance online safety as teens use various digital platforms.
  • The Ready, Tech, Go! program, a collaboration between National PTA and AT&T, helps families, parents and caregivers navigate challenges through meaningful peer-to-peer discussions about screen readiness and ways to promote healthy and responsible device use for all members of the family.
  • The Smart Talk is a free tool created by National PTA and Norton that helps caregivers and kids (ages five to 17) have positive, proactive technology conversations and set healthy digital limits together.

Through the PTA Connected initiative, local PTAs across the country have been hosting events for families in their school communities to connect them with tools, research, and support to help them navigate the digital world and have proactive, open and ongoing conversations with their children to help keep them safe online and build good digital habits. In the 2024-2025 school year, National PTA awarded 350 local PTAs $1,500 each supported by AT&T to host Ready, Tech, Go! programs for parents and caregivers in their communities. They also awarded 87 local PTAs $3,000 each and 13 district/council/region/special education/community PTAs $5,000 each, supported by TikTok, to host Create with Kindness programs for high school families in their communities. More funding will be awarded to local PTAs to host events in the 2025-2026 school year.
