Episode 505 of the Sports and Pop Culture Podcast Recorded Live at X Games Salt Lake City 2025
SALT LAKE CITY, July 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — UNLEASHED sends it live from the inaugural X Games Salt Lake City 2025! Monster Energy is proud to welcome two BMX icons on a special episode recorded at X Games Salt Lake City 2025. Tune in to hear Jamie Bestwick from Nottingham, United Kingdom, and Andy Buckworth from Lake Haven, Australia, on Episode 505 of the sports and pop culture podcast UNLEASHED with the late Dingo, Danny, and Brittney.
Over the course of X Games Salt Lake City 2025, three special X Games editions of the UNLEASHED podcast celebrated the legacy of action sports icon and podcast host, the late Luke “The Dingo” Trembath. “He had this ability of remembering every single person he ever met by name, by sport, and the stories we shared. And that for me as a young athlete from another country, it was pretty special to have this person remember me, this person that I’d watched countless hours of TV, and him being such a legend,” said Buckworth on UNLEASHED.
Streamed live from X Games Salt Lake City during the 30th anniversary of X Games, the unique behind-the-scenes interviews featured Monster Energy athletes Buckworth and Bestwick (BMX) on Friday, Jackson Strong and Blake “Bilko” Williams (Moto X) on Saturday, as well as Tom Schaar and Elliot Sloan (Skateboard) on Sunday.
Asked about the special significance of the event, Bestwick said, “X Games is such an awesome event. It just brings out the best in everybody, you know? This was our Olympics. So once a year, we’d all congregate for the common goal of ‘Let’s ride bikes, let’s ride skateboards, let’s ride motorbikes. And show the world what we’ve got!’ There’s a lot of love in this place, and it’s great to be here.”
The podcast episode with Buckworth and Bestwick was originally recorded live on June 28 at a mobile studio overlooking the Utah State Fairpark and Event Center and streamed live on the Twitch platform. Today, the 53-minute episode featuring the iconic BMX athletes is available to global audiences.

Featuring two of the most prolific BMX athletes of all time, Bestwick is considered the undisputed king of BMX vert and won his first X Games gold in 2000. During a dominant run that spanned 14 gold medals, Bestwick set the record for most consecutive X Games gold medals at nine(!) and today coaches the next generation of Olympic athletes. Joining him on the episode, Buckworth has pushed the progression of the sport by landing death-defying tricks such as the world’s first double frontflip no-hander and no-handed double backflip. Still active on the circuit, Buckworth has two X Games medals to his name, gold and bronze. Few other BMX riders have shaped the evolution of the sport like Bestwick. When he started riding BMX at 10 years old, the scene in his native United Kingdom was in its infancy, and he would become a legend in the sport. Although he competed in pro events at an early age, Bestwick initially opted for a ‘regular’ career as an automotive engineer for Rolls-Royce, until he blazed his own trail as a full-time professional athlete.
Bestwick competed in his first X Games in 1996 and won the bronze medal. Steadily rising through the ranks, he finally took home gold in 2000, ending Dave Mirra’s three-year BMX Vert reign. What followed was a record-setting run of dominance, with Bestwick winning nine back-to-back X Games gold medals. “Well, that was over the years,” he shrugged on UNLEASHED.
Buckworth first competed at the X Games in 2010 and instantly clinched the bronze medal in BMX Big Air in his debut. “X Games was the global stage. Growing up in Australia, it was pretty rare to even catch glimpses of it, because pay-tv is not as common there. If you could get a glimpse of BMX Vert or Park, you were stoked!”
Known as a trick innovator, Buckworth clinched his first gold in BMX Dirt Best Trick at X Games 2021 for landing a never-been-done no-handed double backflip that he unveiled at the event. “This is the one time of the year that you get to see people from all over the world that you otherwise don’t get to see. And it’s that time of the year when you get to share those moments and share those stories.”
Speaking on the legacy of Luke “The Dingo” Trembath, Buckworth said: “I miss his energy. He brought the party wherever he went. He just had this ability of uplifting a whole crowd, a whole room. Or, if it was just you and him, he brought it all together. Being here without him, it is a bit surreal.”
Also sharing his memories on the episode, Bestwick said, “He was just so much fun to be around. Sometimes in life, we take people for granted, and it’s only when they take their leave. It leaves such a huge hole. So we look back and kick ourselves that we didn’t maximize on those moments we had with those individuals.”
