Poland Selects Allison 3040 MX™ Cross-Drive Transmission for Amphibious Borsuk Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The Borsuk, the newest of many Allison-equipped vehicles developed for Poland, will drive the company’s growth in the Defense end market.

INDIANAPOLIS, July 16, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Allison Transmission, a leading designer and manufacturer of vehicle propulsion solutions for tactical wheeled and tracked defense vehicles, has secured a new order of 3040 MX™ cross-drive transmissions for Poland’s Borsuk Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) program. This follows the Memorandum of Understanding announced in 2023 between Allison and Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ) for the cooperation on tracked vehicle programs and the expansion of Allison’s Authorized Service Network in Poland.

“The 3040 MX brings Allison’s proven durability, reliability, performance and innovation to the medium tracked vehicle segment, and to Poland’s indigenously designed and produced Borsuk IFV,” said Dana Pittard, Vice President, Defense Programs, Allison Transmission. “Allison values its partnership with Poland, and we’re extremely honored to play a key role in supporting their defense initiatives.”

The 3040 MX was developed based on Allison’s proven X300 propulsion system, which has been integral to the European CV90 and Warrior IFV drivetrain solutions for more than 30 years. This transmission offers several key advancements that enhance its overall performance, including improved maneuverability with high-speed reverse and integrated steering, as well as better acceleration and fuel economy. Additionally, it features operational improvements like enhanced reliability and advanced electronic controls with integrated diagnostics, making it a significant step forward in military vehicle propulsion.

Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) is a subsidiary of PGZ, which is part of the consortium that will produce upwards of 1,400 Borsuk tracked vehicles over the next 10-15 years. The Borsuk, which is Polish for Badger, is an amphibious tracked vehicle that is operated by a three-person crew and was designed to replace the BWP-1 vehicle as the Polish military’s tracked IFV. Vehicle prototypes have been in testing and validation since 2017 resulting in the 2023 agreement between the Polish Ministry of Defense and HSW.
